Barely two hours after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced the revocation of its operating license, the management of Skye Bank Plc, on Friday changed its official twitter handle from @SkyeBank to @PolarisBankLtd.
It the name change also came with a new logo and colour identity, as if to distant itself from the old brand.
In its first official tweet titled: “CBN Injects N786bn into former Skye Bank, changes name to Polaris Bank,” which reminisces the days of cherry-picking in the nation’s financial system, the bank wrote:
“A new bank, Polaris Bank has been licensed to assume ownership of the assets, all deposit liabilities and some other liabilities of Skye Bank.
“The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, announced that it has withdrawn the operating license of Skye Bank. The decision was taken on Friday evening in Lagos wherein he noted that depositors funds remain safe.
“The existing board, management and staff of the defunct Skye Bank have been retained for the good performance whilst the CBN also assures depositors and customers of the safety of their funds.
“The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation has also injected N786bn into the new bank.”
