In what may seem daring its National Secretariat and the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC), the Lagos State chapter of the ruling party, on Tuesday night announced Babajide Sanwo-Olu winner of the much disputed governorship primary held across the state earlier in the day.
Lagos APC state chairman, Tunde Balogun, said Sanwo-Olu polled 970, 851 votes, beating incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to a distant second with 72,901 votes.
Balogun made the announcement at the party’s state secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.
He may have been emboldened by news reports that APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, immediate past Governor of Edo State, indeed affirmed the exercise, overruling the NWC panel, thereby validating the poll.
Announcing the cancellation of the shadow election to pick a candidate for the February 2019 governorship ticket in Lagos earlier in the day, the NWC panel, led by Chief Clement Ebri, former Cross River State Governor insisted that no primary is deemed to have held across the state. He then promised to announce a new date for the exercise later.
