While embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still trying to decide how to deal with the January defection of Nelson Effiong, the senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, the party lost yet another member of the 109-member upper legislative chamber of the Nigerian National Assembly, with Tuesday’s defection of Dr. Andy Uba, aid to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Uba’s defection to the APC was announced by Senate President Bukola Saraki during the day’s plenary.
Uba, 59, representing Anambra South Senatorial zone, was first elected into the upper chamber in April 2011.
The Senate President also read a letter dated February 5, 2017 from President Muhammadu Buhari on the extension of his annual leave indefinitely.
