The Abdul Samad Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), on Tuesday unveiled a N310m students’ hostel building at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State, funded under its ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme, as part of an ongoing commitment to deliver sustainable and high-impact interventions within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
The newly completed 110-occupant capacity hostel, consisting of a common room, reception, student hall, supervisor’s office, kitchen, laundry, with well-demarcated multiple exits, according to ASR Africa, was designed to enhance students’ accommodation and welfare on campus, providing a conducive environment for learning, rest, and personal development.
Following a pre-handover inspection conducted earlier in August 2025, the project was confirmed to have met all specified standards and requirements, further reflecting what ASR Africa said is its dedication to quality and sustainability in its educational interventions.
Commenting on the project, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice Chancellor of the institution described the project as an expected milestone courtesy of ASR Africa, expressing appreciation to Abdul Samad Rabiu, the Chairman and Founder of BUA Group for “extending his philanthropic reach to our university.
“The building, being commissioned today, has in no little way advanced the achievements of the school in providing a conducive and safe accommodation for the teeming students of the school,” he added.
Also speaking, Dr. Ubon Udoh, Managing Director/CEO, ASR Africa, thanked the management of the university for its collaborative efforts and commitment at every stage of the project.
Over the next two years, he assured, “ASR Africa will be coming periodically to the school to ascertain the state of the hostel in conjunction with the school for joint accountability in terms of maintenance. Our interventions are targeted at ensuring students are the final beneficiaries, and this is reflected across recently commissioned projects.”
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Sirajo Said, who represented Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Executive Governor of the state, commended ASR Africa and its Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for supporting the Federal University in the State with the donation of the hostel, which he described as exemplary and worthy of emulation by other corporate organizations.
He also urged ASR Africa to consider extending the same gesture, a testament to ASR Africa’s unwavering commitment to providing sustainable infrastructure aimed at addressing critical gaps across African Universities, to the State University.
