Breaking: Jammeh Departs Banjul Aboard Conakry Bound Plane

After weeks of stand-off and several hours of intense pressure from the international community, particularly leaders of neighbouring Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), there are indications that Yahya Jammeh has left the capital Banjul.
A tweet by a BBC reporter, Thomas Fessy (@BBCfessy) last night reported that “#Jammeh just boarded plane with his wife and #Guinea president – flying to #Conakry, it seems.”
SkyNews quoted sources as saying “The Gambia’s former leader Yahya Jammeh has arrived at Banjul Airport with Guinea President (Alpha Conde) after stepping down.”
An obviously excited President Adama Barrow, confirmed the development some minutes later, when he tweeted on his personal handle: “This is an important announcement. Yahya Jammeh has boarded the plane. It is scheduled to leave Gambia very soon. #NewGambia.”
And then, this: “I would like to inform you that the second President of the Republic of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh has left Gambia. #Gambia.”
