The Presidential Panel to Investigate allegations against Secretary to the Government of Federation, Engr. Babachir Lawal and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, says it would meet behind closed doors.
This, according to a statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity in the office of the Vice President, on Saturday, is in a bid to allow for full disclosure and enhance the pace of proceedings.
The three-man committee chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, was set up by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday to probe allegations of violation of legal and due process against the SGF in the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE), and the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at No. 16, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Other members of the committee to investigate both top government functionaries who have since been suspended are: Attorney-General & Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami and National Security Adviser, Rtd Major General Babagana Munguno.
The statement by Akande said the panel would “invite all relevant officials and private individuals who may be connected to both case.
“It will also obtain and scrutinize documents that may throw some light on the issues raised in both cases,” it noted.
The statement while assuring that the committee’s work would be conducted with utmost diligence and without fear or favour, adding that the closed door activities is part of efforts to avoid speculations.
