The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) on Tuesday announced the elections of new officers led by Adesina Isaac Adedayo, to steer its affairs for the next two years.
Adedayo, who replaces Dame Gladys Olajumoke Moyosoreoluwa Ayinke Simplice, emerged during an election that was one of the high points of the institute’s 29th Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, June 3, 2021.
Other executive council members also elected during the AGM are: Samuel Olushola Agbeluyi, Vice President, Innocent Chinyere Ohagwa, Deputy Vice President, Simon Nwanmaghyi Kato, honourary treasurer.
A statement by the institute also announced the creation of two new deputy registrars positions, and appointment of Dr. Lanre Olasunkanmi, a Chartered accountant and Tax professional, as Deputy Registrar Corporate and Internal Services; while Mrs Afolake Oso, also a Fellow of the Institute, and a legal practitioner, as Deputy Registrar, Research and Professional Services
The new President and chairman of council, a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, is a specialist in Risks Management and Economic Model Building.
A member of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN) and a Certified Fraud Examiner, he obtained a first degree in Accounting from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi in 2017.
He started his working career with the Federal Audit Department (now known as Office of the Auditor General of the Federation) in 1984, where he acquired profession experience until 1993. That year, he joined the firms of Adetona Isichei & Co (Chartered Accountants), which later became Akintola Williams Deloitte, where he was until May 2002 when began his tax and audit practice under the auspices of his firms: AIA Professionals (Chartered Tax Practitioners) and Adesina Adedayo & Co. (Chartered Accountants).
The new President has served the institute in various capacities, including member, Vice Chairman I & II and Chairman of various committees, such as the CITN Think Tax, Lagos District Society, Social & Publicity Committee, Annual Tax Conference Committee, JTB Education Committee, Tax Practice Monitoring Committee, Finance and General-Purposes Committee to mention but a few. He also was a member and CITN Representative of the National Tax Policy Review Committee (an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Finance).
He has served at various times also as Council Member, an EXCO member, Deputy Vice President and Vice President of the institute, from where was elected.
Adedayo holds a Special Executive Masters in Leadership & Strategy from the Metropolitan School of Business and Management (UK), and is presently undergoing the Senior Executive Course 43, 2021 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State.
On his part, Agbeluyi holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy with a Master of Science (Finance) from the Lagos State University, Ojo and MBA (Marketing) from Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) Business School, Enugu.
Thereafter, he obtained a law degree from the University of Bradford United Kingdom, followed by his LLB at the Nigerian Law School.
A multi-disciplinary professional of repute, Agbeluyi is a fellow of the CITN, ICAN and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (FCS), making modest contributions both in employment and practice, a situation that makes him an all-rounder.
Before now, he has served in various capacities, including as Honorary Treasurer of the institute, Deputy Vice President and now the Vice President.
Ohagwa is an Accounting graduate of the University of Lagos, after which he obtained a Master degree in Business Administration from the Bayero University, Kano.
His qualified as Chartered Accountant with the then firm of Akintola Williams & Co Chartered Accountants, Lagos and worked with Century Merchant Bank Limited and Muktari Dangana & Co. (Chartered Accountants), Kano before joining the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
From there, Ohagwa joined the institute in 1990 and became a fellow in 1999, in addition to being fellow of ICAN since year 2000; following which in 2017, he qualified as Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
A member of The Information System Audit and Control Association (ISACA) of USA, he was in 2013 awarded a certificate of completion of the Comparative Tax Policy and Administration Programme, of Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government Executive Education, Massachusetts, USA.
He is currently the Coordinating Director, General Services Group of Federal Inland Revenue Service, Abuja and he is happily married with three children.
Kato, a 1988 graduate of Economics, besides two Master Degrees in his kitty, is a Fellow of both CITN and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).
He has served the CITN at various capacities over the years including Chairmanship of committees such as Publicity, Publications and Branding, as well as Membership and Professional Conduct Committee, among others.
Kato is actively in service and has over 30 years of work experience as a Tax Administrator
