The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been drawn to a newspaper report alleging the arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of one of its Deputy Governors who was made to forfeit some amount of money to the watchdog.
A statement by the apex bank on Wednesday stated “categorically that there is no iota of truth in the said report,” which it described as a mere figment of the writer’s imagination.
The CBN assured that it would “not be distracted from the onerous task of ensuring stability in the financial system, and indeed the economy, at this critical time.”
The statement reminded those insistent on disparaging the bank and its officials “that legal options would be explored to protect its reputation from being tarnished in any manner.”
