According to the latest data from the civic organisation- BudgIT, all of Nigeria’s 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, received N1.48tr between July and September 2024.

The top five states- all belonging to the gang of Oil Producing States, except Lagos, the country’s commercial and economic capital. The big earners were: Delta  – N128.3bn, representing 8.67% of total receipt; Rivers – N107.8bn, 7.28%; Lagos – N106.2bn, 7.18%; Akwa Ibom – N88.3bn, 5.97%; and Bayelsa – N76.2bn, 5.15%.

A further breakdown showed that five of them received over N50bn, 15 went home with between N30bn and N50bn, while 17 got below N29bn.

Similarly, the five states with the lowest receipts was led by Gombe in the North East, which received N24.7bn or 1.67%for the three-month period; followed by Osun in the South West with N25.1bn or 1.69%; as well as Ogun and Ebonyi in the South West and South East respectively which received N25.6bn or 1.73% each; while Kwara in the North Central got N25.7bn or 1.74%.
