As Part of the Paris Club Refund, the Federal Government distributed a total of N388,304,379,072.96 reimbursement of over-deductions on Paris Club Loans distributed in December 2016.
Details of the distribution released on Wednesday night by the Federal Ministry of Finance show that five states, including three oil producing states of Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Delta got the lion’s share of N14.5bn each.
Two other states- Lagos, the nation’s commercial and economic nerve centre in the South West and Katsina in the North West geo-political zone, also received N14.5bn.
Lagos, Katsina and Delta got N14.5b each.
Kaduna followed with N14. 362bn; Borno, N13.654bn; Niger, N13.412bn; Jigawa, N13.22bn; Imo, N13.021bn; Edo, N11.329bn; Kogi, N11.211bn; and Kebbi, N11.118bn.
The Ministry specifically noted Ondo State, which received N6.513bn, which it said “represents 50% of the refund due in Tranche 1—on account of the leadership transition.”
Kwara also got paid in two tranches of N5.415bn and N3.773bn.
The Already, President Muhammadu Buhari has given approval for distribution of the second tranche of about N500bn in total as part of easing the financial strain being suffered by the various states and to enable them meet such obligations arrears of salaries and pension, among others. It would go a long way to also address the lingering illiquidity in the economy.
