SEC Debunks Reported Resignation Of Uduk As Acting DG

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), on Sunday debunked a newspaper report that Acting Director-General, Ms. Mary Uduk has resigned from the commission.

Besides resigning, the newspaper also purported that a send forth for her is slated for Monday June 15, 2020; claim the statement by Efe Ebelo, Head of Corporate Communication of the SEC described as “false.”

Instead, the commission stressed that its Acting DG “has not resigned her appointment with the Commission, neither has she handed over to anyone.

“Ms Uduk like every other staff of the commission is awaiting the arrival of the new DG, Mr. Lamido Yuguda who was cleared by the senate last week.”

No such send forth is being planned for Ms. Uduk, the SEC, urging stakeholders in the nation’s capital market and the general public “to disregard the contents of the aforementioned publication as they are false.”

A source close to the commission told Investdata News also on Sunday that although the new SEC management has been cleared by the Senate last week, their appointment letters will be issued by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, on the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari.

While the appointment of Yuguda was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, Reginald Karawusa (Imo), Ibrahim Boyi (Katsina), and Temidayo Obisan (Lagos), were confirmed as executive commissioners.

This followed the submission of the report of the Committee on Capital Markets presented before the Senate by the Chairman, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, which recommended their confirmation.
