Awosika Replaces Retiring Belo-Olusoga As Access Bank Chairman

In what may seem an unwritten code playing out, the board of Access Bank Plc, on Tuesday announced the appointment of another female boardroom giant- Dr. (Mrs.) Ojoritsedere Awosika as chairman to replace Mrs. Mosun Belo-Olusoga, who retires on January 8, 2020.
In a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) by Sunday Ekwochi, the company secretary, the bank said Belo-Olusoga, who became chairman of the board in July 2015, has completed her maximum 12-year term limit in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) corporate governance code for banks and discount houses.
“Mrs. Belo-Olusoga has confirmed that she has no disagreement with the board and there are no issues relating to her retirement that need to be brought to the attention of the shareholders of the company or the regulatory authorities,” the statement assured.
Awosika, who was appointed in line with the leadership succession plan, is expected to lead the board in the next stage of the bank’s transformation into Africa’s gateway to the world.
Described as an accomplished administrator, with over 30 years’ experience in public sector governance, the chairman-designate joined the board of Access Bank in April 2013 as an independent non-executive director. She has over the years served as chairman and vice-chairman of the board credit and finance committee and board audit committee respectively, in addition to membership of other committees.
Dr. Awosika, a fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacy, holds a doctorate degree in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Bradford, UK.
A former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministries of Internal Affairs, Science and Technology, as well as Power, she is also chairman of Cham Plc and Josephine Consulting Limited. As well as a non-executive director of Capital Express Assurance Ltd.
