In what may be a quick move to shield the Muhammadu Buhari administration from the allegations of encouraging impunity, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday afternoon bore his fang, terminating the appointment of Lawal Musa Daura, Director-General of the State Security Service “with immediate effect.”
A statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, directed Daura to hand over to the most senior officer of the Department “until further notice.”
Although the terse statement was silent on reason for the sack, his ouster may not be unconnected with Tuesday’s morning invasion of the National Assembly complex by armed officers of the Department who were masked, along with uniformed mobile Policemen, who prevent Senate from a planned meeting of the principal officers of the legislative arm.

The meeting was to be chaired by Senate President Bukola Saraki, who recently defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
President Buhari is on vacation in London.
Tweeting on his personal handle, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim wrote: “I was just barred by fully armed, masked officers of the DSS from entering the National Assembly.
“We’re acting on the order from above,” I was told by the officers laying siege on the Assembly. All entrances blocked.”
