Dangote Group Assures Of Juicier Returns, As Tanzanian Cement Plants Switch To Gas Turbines

The management of Dangote Cement Plc, on Sunday, revealed that its Tanzanian Plants now runs on gas turbines, just as sales volumes from those in Senegal have achieved over 100% of their rated capacity.
Should these trajectories continue to year-end, the company assured of better days ahead for investors.
Dangote Cement distributed all of N272.6bn in dividend payout to its shareholders, translating to N16 per share, for the year ended December 2018, an increase of 52.4% from N178.9bn or N10.50 each in the corresponding period of 2017 full-year.
Reasons for the optimism, the company said in a statement, are not farfetched, given the assurance by Dangote Cement’s chairman, Aliko Dangote, that its cement terminals in Lagos and Rivers would be concluded before this year-end, thereby further improving market share.
He expressed optimism that the terminals, which were delayed by equipment suppliers, would rake in about $700m in foreign exchange through cement export across sub-Saharan Africa.
He said the company would be opening facilities within the terminals for export of clinker and cement to existing facilities in Cameroun and other African countries.
Continuing, Dangote stressed that “later in 2019, we will open export facilities in Lagos and Port Harcourt that will enable us export clinker initially to our grinding facility in Cameroun and then to new grinding plans we are building in West Africa…Not only will these generate useful foreign currency for Dangote Cement to support other expansion projects outside of Nigeria, but they will also help to increase the output of our Nigerian plants.”
Specifically, the company would be exporting cement through the terminals to Ghana, Cameroun, Sierra Leone, and Congo, among others and as such make Nigeria the biggest exporter of cement in sub-Saharan Africa.
The project, he stressed further, will improve job creation and increase the country’s prosperity, and that Dangote Cement’s capacity will also increase on completion of the terminals.
Dangote Cement is Africa’s leading cement producer with nearly 46 metric tons per annum capacity across 10 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. A fully integrated quarry-to-customer producer, it has a production capacity of 29.25Mta in Nigeria, even as its Obajana plant in Kogi State, Nigeria, is Africa’s largest with 13.25Mta of capacity across four lines; while the Ibese plant in Ogun State has four cement lines with a combined capacity of 12Mta, and Gboko Plant in Benue state, 4Mta.
