Dangote Oil Refinery: Lagos Plans Relocation Of MDAs To Lekki, Says Gov

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, announced plans by the Lagos State Government to relocate some unnamed Ministries, Department, and Agencies to the Ibeju-Lekki axis of the state, ahead of the planned take-off of the 650,00 barrels per day Dangote Petroleum Refinery and fertiliser plant.

Speaking during a facility tour of the Dangote Oil Refinery, Petrochemical Complex, Fertiliser Plant and Subsea Gas Pipeline Projects at Ibeju-Lekki weekend, he said the plan is based on the level of development already seen, expressing excitement about jobs already being created by the projects.

The governor, was received by the President/Chief Executive, Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote; Group Executive Director, Strategy, Capital Projects & Portfolio Development, Devakumar Edwin; and the Chief Operations Officer, Dangote Oil Refinery Company, Giuseppe Surace, who guided him and his team around the vast complex.

Thereafter, he assured of the government’s encouragement and support, stressing his administration’s determination to “also ensure that the master plan for the free trade zone is followed.”

Expressing confidence that the investment would meet the yearnings of Nigerians, just as it holds exciting times ahead for the government, with the fuel queues across the country becoming a thing of the past, Sanwo-Olu stressed that the project will rejuvenate the entire Ibeju-Lekki-Epe trade corridor.

He commended the Dangote Group for situating the investment in Lagos, and for the positive development which the Dangote Oil Refinery and Dangote Fertiliser Complex would bring to the state and the Nigerian economy.

The governor said he was impressed with the progress of the projects, noting that the group had taken into account gender inclusion and secured the future of the youths in the host communities, in Lagos and Nigeria in general.

He pledged to complement the efforts of the Group and boost infrastructure with adequate road networks, while creating an enabling environment to foster a symbiotic relationship.

On his part, President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, appreciated the support of the governor and for making Lagos a haven for investors, assuring of the group’s commitment to make the Epe axis a hub of industrialisation through job creation and other economic empowerment activities.

He noted that even before being commissioned, the refinery and fertiliser projects have created around 20,000 jobs for Nigerians, with more in the offing, expressing the appreciation of the Dangote Industries Limited to its host communities across the group.

He promised that the group would boost the fishing industry in the Lekki area by providing boats and jobs within the projects to boost local income, even as it has met and exceeded the expectations of the local community.

He added that in a bid to boost local infrastructure and complement the efforts of government, the Group would begin road construction and rehabilitation in May even before any formal agreement is signed, with the support of the Executive Order, ‘Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme Order 2019 No. 007 of 2019’.

Governor Sanwo-Olu was accompanied by the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry & Cooperatives, Dr. (Mrs.) Lola Akande; Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce & Industry, Oladele Ajayi; Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello; and the Chairman, Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Abiodun Dabir.
