It Was Generator Exhaust, No Fire At CBN Abuja Head Office- Okorafor

The management of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Tuesday described as fake news media reports that a section of its Abuja head office was gutted by fire in the early evening.
According to some online newspapers, the outbreak which reportedly started at about 6pm was being put off by fire fighters including officials of construction giant- Julius Berger.
But a statement by Isaac Okorafor, Acting Director, Corporate Communications at the apex bank soon after, while debunking the report noted that “passersby who saw a pall of exhaust from the generator house far away from the building apparently mistook the exhaust for fire smoke.”
He assured that “the CBN maintains a total security system that triggers safety alarms in the presence of smoke and so all fire engines and personnel received the alert only to discover that it was an unusual pall of exhaust.”
The affected generator, he added, has been rested and normal work has been uninterrupted, while the engineers are working to rectify the issues with the said generator.
“We hereby assure the general public that there has been no fire at our building,” Okorafor added.
