The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), on Thursday, said Nigeria’s 36 states together pooled N986.29bn in Internally Generated Revenue between January and September 2019.
Lagos State continued to maintain the lead, with its N297.09bn IGR, representing a princely 30.12% of the total, followed by Rivers with N107.03bn; the FCT, N55.722bn; Ogun, N52.86bn; Delta, N49.51bn; and Kaduna, N28.148bn. Yobe State, however, recorded the least IGR of N3.343bn; behind neighbouring Gombe, N4.24bn, and Taraba, N4.722bn; coming behind Ebonyi in the South East, which could only pool N5.64bn in the nine-month period. For the third quarter alone, the total IGR of the states and the Federal Capital Territory amounted to N293.80bn, down by 25.12%, when compared to the N392.38bn recorded in second-quarter 2019.
During the third quarter also, seven states recorded growth in their IGR, while 30, including the FCT, recorded a decline in the period under review.
A breakdown of the third quarter numbers showed that Pay As You Earn fetched N170.406bn, followed by N52.881bn from other taxes, N49.461bn revenue from ministries departments and agencies of the various state governments, among others.
In the nine-month period, the states and FCT generated a total of 986.294bn, with a total tax of N841.286bn, chief of which was the N602.41bn in PAYE, followed by a breakdown of the third quarter numbers showed that Pay As You Earn fetched N176.841bn; while MDAs pooled N145.008bn, among others.
