Petrol: Borno, Oyo, Ebonyi Lead, As Nigerians Paid N148.7/Litre Average In Jan, Says NBS

Diesel Sells For N240.52/Litre

Latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), released on Wednesday showed that Nigerians paid an average of N148.70 per litre for Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) in the month of January 2017, representing 35.7% increase on a year-on-year and 1.35% on month-on-month basis from N146.7 in December 2016.
States with the highest average price of petrol for the period were Borno, were it averaged N164.09 per litre; followed by Oyo, N161.00; and Ebonyi, 156.47, as against the price of N145 stipulated by the Federal Government through its Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
States with the lowest average price of PMS were recorded in Kogi where it was dispensed at N144.67 per litre; Ekiti and Imo residents paid N144.64; while in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, it sold at an average of N144.20.
Other states where petrol sold during the month for far more than the official price included: Osun, N156.10 per litre on the average; Sokoto and Ondo, N155; Bayelsa, N153.30; Lagos, N152.10; Ogun, N152; and Jigawa, N151.
In Adamawa, Gombe and Rivers, petrol sold at N145 per litre; followed by Nasarawa, N145.1; Kwara, N145.20; Delta, 145.40; Benue, N145.50; Zamfara and Anambra, N145.70; Kano, N145.80; Akwa Ibom, N145.90.
Meanwhile, in the review period, consumers paid N240.52 per litre for Automotive Gas Oil, also known across the country for diesel, according to the Price Watch released by NBS also on Wednesday.
This represented an increase of 22.56% year-on-year and 50.06% from the level in December.
The highest average price of diesel were Abuja and Bayelsa, N270; Delta, N256.77 per litre and Cross River, N256.36; while the lowest prices of diesel were recorded in Enugu, N230.78; and Adamawa, N230.50; while Lagos, Oyo and Taraba residents paid N230.
