For the third time within the last decade, the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions chaired by Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, on Tuesday at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, screened the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Lamido Yuguda, as board chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
Yuguda, the immediate past Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was first screened for the job by the same committee on June 10, 2020, along with three executive commissioners, after being nominated on May 19, by the then President Muhammadu Buhari.
Investdata News recalls also that three months ago, the Committee, on April 29, screened and confirmed him as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Yuguda was recently nominated as the new Chairman of the Board of AMCON by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, n line with section 10(1)(a) of AMCON (Establishment) Act 2019, as amended. He replaces Bala Mohammed Bello.
Tinubu in his letter seeking a speedy consideration and confirmation of the nominee, said Yuguda appointment “is necessitated by the exit of the immediate past chairman of the board of AMCON.”
A statement by Jude Chiedozzie Nwauzor, the Head of Corporate Communications, AMCON, said the Senate committee asked the nominee to take a bow and go, in which case the committee did not subject him to rigorous questioning, but instead extended the courtesy of “a bow and go.”
