The management of Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State and Wema Bank Plc, on Thursday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will enable students and other residents of the university community to receive payment and other transactions through the Electronic Bills Payment (eBillsPay) and WebPay platforms.
As part of the MoU, Wema Bank will provide the university a School Portal Solutions through its technical partner (Upperlink), in addition to bringing both parties in a close relationship that will see the bank aiding the university, especially it’s Finance and Business departments in several areas.
The MoU was signed at a short ceremony in her office by the university’s Vice-Chancellor of Western Delta University, Professor Cecilia Otete Okobia; and Dr. Henry Oghoator, Dean, College of Social & Management Sciences, who also doubled as Chairman of the implementation committee for the speedy and successful completion of the agreement process; while Wema Bank was represented by Damola Bolodeoku, Head, E-Business & Payments, Wema Bank; Bryan Igbinedion, Regional Legal Officer and Edah Emmanuel, Regional Head, South-South of the bank.
Addressing newsmen shortly after signing the MoU, Mrs. Okobia, explained that the strategic partnership will bring transparency into the institution’s financial management, besides creating an opportunity for students and other members of the university community to pay their bills and other transactions.
She added that WDU will benefit from the bank in the area of the provisions of infrastructure like installations of ATM machines, the introduction of multipurpose payment cards, e-library, e – exams and records processing devices, e – payments, and even buses for the transportation of students and staff to and fro the university.
A statement by the university said the MoU marks another milestone in its life as it seeks to build up a wide network with various corporate financial, ICT, mass media, and industrial leaders to help give WDU students a head start in their industrial training and in the labour market.
