Dr. Obadiaha Mailafia, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, will be a guest lecturer at the third annual birthday lecture of Professor Akpan Hogan Ekpo, former Vice-chancellor of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and renowned Professor of Economics and Public Polic.

Mailafia, a Development Economist and Political Philosopher, will speak on the topic: Insecurity and Economic Development in Nigeria, at the event which will have Dr. Asikpo Essien-Ibok, a political scientist and Prof. Andem Ayara, an economist and former Deputy Vice-chancellor of the University of Calabar, as discussants.

The event, organized by the university’s Centre for Public Policy, according to a statement, will hold on Friday June 25, 2021, at the main campus’ Tetfund Building of the University at 10am prompt.

The Vice-chancellor, Prof. NyaudohNdaeyo will be chief host, according to a statement by Prof. Ntiedo Umoren, its executive vice chairman.

Prof. Ekpo, one of Nigeria’s foremost economists and chairman of the Foundation for Economic Research and Training, was the immediate Director General of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM). He was the pioneer Vice-chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University and former Vice-chancellor of the University of Uyo (Federal), as well as a former Non-Executive Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Centre for Public Policy was conceived by his former students, friends and family and named after him.
