Following the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, North East Nigeria, and yielding to the appeal by President Bola Tinubu urging the private sector to support recovery efforts, Abdul Samad Rabiu, founder of BUA Group, on Tuesday donated the sum of N2bn to the victims of the flood and support recovery efforts by the state government.
The donation included N1bn each in cash and essential food supplies, in what a statement by the group said is aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced persons and communities affected by the floods.
This donation was made by a delegation from Alhaji Rabiu on the sympathy visit , led by the Group Executive Director of BUA Group, Alh. Kabiru Rabiu, that visited Maiduguri to deliver the food items and cash donation to Prof. Babagana Zulum, Executive Governor, Borno State,.
Speaking on the donation, the statement quoted Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group and founder of Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), as reaffirming his commitment to standing by Nigerians in times of need. He regretted that “the recent flooding in Maiduguri has caused untold hardship for thousands of families. I believe it is my responsibility and that of my organisation which is deeply rooted in the fabric of Nigerian society, to act swiftly and meaningfully in providing relief to those affected. This N2 billion donation to the victims of the recent flooding in Borno is one way of supporting the most vulnerable in times of crisis.”
The N1 billion worth of food items consisted of flour, pasta, sugar, rice, and other essential commodities for distribution to the hardest-hit areas as part of providing immediate relief, while the N1bn cash donation was presented to the state government through the governor to ensure that aid reaches those in need as swiftly as possible.
Abdul Samad Rabiu, through the philanthropic arm of his company, BUA Foundation, and his personal philanthropy, the ASR Africa, continues to demonstrate his commitment to supporting communities across Nigeria and Africa at large, particularly during crises. This latest contribution is part of broader effort to support recovery and rebuilding efforts across flood-affected regions in the country.
In collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders, BUA Foundation and ASR Africa, the statement assured further, will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that the necessary resources are provided to help the people of Maiduguri recover and rebuild in the wake of this disaster.
