Adesina Begins Second 5-Year Term As AfDB Group President Tuesday

The African Development Bank(AfDB) Group says it has scheduled the swearing-in ceremony of its newly re-elected President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina for Tuesday, September 1, 9.00 am GMT.

A notice by the multilateral agency from its Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire headquarters on Sunday night said the virtual ceremony will be attended by Heads of States, Governors and external stakeholders, and conducted in compliance with the COVID-19 pandemic-related social distance guidelines, and broadcast online.

Recall that Adesina was re-elected to serve a second five-year term as President of the AfDB, after receiving the unanimous vote of all the Governors of the Bank on Thursday August 27, the last day of the 2020 Annual Meetings.

The statement described Adesina as “a globally renowned development economist, World Food Prize Laureate and Sunhak Peace Prize Laureate, (who) has distinguished himself in driving a bold agenda to reform the Bank and accelerate Africa’s development. He was first elected as President of the Bank on May 28, 2015.”
