CBN Postpones MPC Meeting To Thursday

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Thursday announced that the third regular meeting of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will now hold on Thursday, May 28, 2020, instead of the earlier scheduled Monday and Tuesday, Mary 25 and 26, 2020.

This, according to a statement by Isaac Okorafor, the Director of Corporate Communications at the CBN, the postponement is due to the Federal Government’s declaration of both days as Eid-el Fitr holidays, to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Okorafor explained that “for the avoidance of doubt, the CBN has put in place all necessary machinery for the meeting to now hold for only one day on account of the on-going COVID-19 national lockdown.”

This, he added, is also to align the “meeting with extant rules of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and advisories from other relevant agencies.”
