Court Adjourns NUJ, NAWOJ Housing Fraud Suit Till March 13

• Summons Ogunwusi, Omowole, Elumoye, Odusola

The case between some Lagos journalists and other claimants, versus the Nigerian Union of Journalists and Ifeyinwa Omowole, National President of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Deji Elumoye, Tosin Odusola, Primewaterview Holdings and NUJ was on Wednesday adjourned till March 13, 2019 at noon.
This followed the absence of all but one defendant in the suit.

While officials of the NUJ were present, Omowole and Elumoye, immediate past chairman of the NUJ Lagos chapter, were represented by Barrister Yinka Kalejaye with no one for Primewaterviews Holdings, Tunji Ogunwusi, under whose chairmanship, the project began.

When the mediator, Mrs. Dupe Ogunsanwo advised that the presence of the key individuals involved is very important, Kalejaye claimed that Omowole and Elumoye could not appear in person because they currently work in Abuja.
Mrs Ogunsanwo however strongly advised that it will be in their own interest to appear in person on March 13th, 2019.
Meanwhile, at the last sitting in January, Deji, speaking to the case manager on phone, promised to make himself available at today’s hearing while Ifeyinwa’s phone went dead immediately the caller introduced herself.
Also, the lawyer to Primewaters Holdings who chose the date for Wednesday’s hearing was absent.
Meanwhile, following the directive of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NUJ at its inaugural meeting in Abuja recently, the Lagos State Council, also on Wednesday commenced reallocation of plots of land to its members.
Speaking on behalf of other allottees, Alhaji Sulaiman Ajayi of Lagos Ministry of Information commended the Qasim Akinreti-led executive for taking the giant stride of letting people have access to their lands. “It is a big relief and a major step forward.”
The NEC also directed that every legal step be taken to recover the money unaccounted for out of the several millions paid to the Primewaterview Holdings Limited in five instalments between July 2016, and April 2017. Such money, the NUJ further directed, should be returned to subscribers.
The NUJ NEC further directed that Lagos State Council must take steps to verify the N4 million returned from the conversion of the said “expired dollars,” as claimed by Mrs. Ifeyinwa Omowole.
NEC however deferred any sanction on erring members pending the outcome of the case before Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
