The management of Dangote Group, on Tuesday, said a staff of one of its contractors is currently being isolated and undergoing tests at the Lagos Mainland Hospital Centre on suspicion of having contracted the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
The patient, an Indian national and staff of Onshore Construction Company, a mechanical, electrical and instrumentation contracting firm specialized in fertilizer construction, according to a statement reported at the site clinic complaining of high temperature and fever.
“His complaint triggered our Protocols which necessitated further screening and isolation immediately. Mr. Akhil Kunyil, of the Health and Safety Environment of the Onshore Company, reported the development to the management following which local authorities were contacted,” the statement added.
Dangote Group said it had taken some stringent proactive measures across its entire group since the pandemic broke out mid-January 2020, like developing a comprehensive risk identification, control prioritization, and escalation plan; in addition to identifying and retaining a competent team of medical consultants.
There is also a travel ban for all employees to and from high-risk countries as per WHO publications of country exposures, besides travel tracking of all employees and contractors staff arriving/leaving Nigeria and obligations for completion of medical checks to validate health status.
There is also the implementation of the use of Thermal cameras across our various sites as well as infrared thermometers checking in smaller office locations; identifying and creating, where applicable, what it called “holding, isolation and quarantine areas.”
In addition, the group is also implementing the use of sanitizers across all it locations, including sites and offices, while engaging in multiple and continuous awareness campaigns on preventative measures to be taken (both electronic and physical i.e. posters, public announcements).
“The above measures are continually updated as the situation globally evolves and we will continue to do so. The welfare of our employees and the nation as a whole remains our utmost priority,” the statement added.
