The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Friday, April 3, 2020, put total monetary contributions to the account set up under the auspices of the Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) at N9.488bn from 47 corporates and individuals.
In a statement issued on behalf of the coalition by the CBN’s director, corporate communications, Isaac Okorafor, also listed pledges valued at N3.4bn, including N1bn each still to be redeemed from Chief Mike Adenuga, Lafarge Plc and MTN Nigeria, as well as N400m from John Coumantarous of Flour Mills of Nigeria.
The new donors, according to the breakdown, include Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, through Takagro Beverages Limited, N50m; Ekeoma eme Ekeoma, N10m; Ahmadu Mahmoud, N20m; Jennnifer Ramatu Etuh Foundation, through Handy Capital Limited, N5m; ADG International Resources Limited; N2.5m; and Proshare Nigeria, N1m.
Earlier donors are Aliko Dangote, N2bn each; while Abdul Samad Rabiu (BUA Group); Segun Agbaje (Guaranty Trust Bank); Tony Elumelu (United Bank for Africa Plc); Oba Otudeko (First Bank of Nigeria Limited); Jim Ovia (Zenith Bank Plc); Herbert Wigwe (Access Bank Plc); and Femi Otedola of Amperion Power Distribution, donated N1bn each to the fund.
Other donors include Pacific Holding Limited, Union Bank Plc, Sterling Bank Plc, Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Citi Bank Nigeria Ltd, FCMB, Fidelity Bank, Ecobank Nigeria, African Steel Mills, and Multichoice Nigeria Limited.
The statement listed others as FSDH Merchant Bank, FBN Merchant Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, Coronation Merchant Bank, Sun Trust Bank, Providus Bank, Wema Bank, Unity Bank, Heritage Bank, Nova Merchant Bank, Polaris Bank, and Keystone Bank, among others.
