Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s acting President, on Tuesday in Abuja assured Nigerians that the current economic challenges that has resulted the country being in recession for the first three consecutive months of last year would soon be a thing of the past.
In a statement he signed personally and released by his office, he based his enthusiasm on the Federal Government’s new and “complete focus on improving the economy every day.”
In the statement titled: “We are committed to engagement with our people, and fixing the economy,” Osinbajo said members of the Federal Executive Council “have gone round eight States so far holding town hall meetings. The most recent was yesterday (Monday) in Ilorin. There will be more of such meetings in the other States that are yet to be visited.”
Also, Osinbajo who has acted as President since January 17, when President Muhammadu Buhari left for the United Kingdom for treatment, extending his leave indefinitely on Sunday, commended the Inspector General of Police and his officers for the manner they handled the #IStandWithNigeria protests on Monday.
He praised the Police for handling the protests in Lagos and Abuja “with professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens.”
Osinbajo further assured that the Federal Government remains “committed to a continuous engagement with our people to explain government policies, receive advice and criticism.”
