Women In Management Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), on Tuesday, took to its official Twitter handle to celebrate the first Mrs. Priscilla Ekwere Eleje, the first woman to sign the nation’s currency as Director of Currency in the 61-year history of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

WIMBIZ in the series of tweets described the feat as “historic and laudable,” while displaying pictures of both Mrs. Eleje and the N1000 note with her signature on it.
The group, “a Nigerian non-profit organization working to elevate the profile of professional women since 2001,” while congratulating the director of currency, commended Godwin Emefiele, the CBN Governor, for helping to ensure gender balance and “giving a woman this honour and breaking the 61-year tradition” of having their male-folks as director of Currency Operations at the apex bank.
A graduate of psychology from the University of Jos, Eleje is an alumna of the prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship programme in Banking and Management at Boston University, Massachusetts, USA.
She also has a Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) and joined the CBN 33 years ago, working in currency management for 17 years.
With a passion for sustainability and cost efficiency in currency management, Mrs. Eleje has served on many technical committees and implemented several currency management initiatives to create value and improvement opportunities for the CBN.
