The Acting Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria, Ms. Mary Uduk, on Tuesday noted that a core mandate of the West Africa Securities Regulators Association (WASRA) is provision of a much needed regulatory platform for capital market operators to help mobilize funds for infrastructure financing, while integrating and ultimately developing the region’s capital market.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, she said the West Africa Capital Market Integration Council has commenced registration for the inaugural Biennial West Africa Capital Market Conference (WACMaC) scheduled for October 28 and 29, 2019, in Abidjan, Cote D’ivoire.
With the theme: “Positioning West Africa Capital Markets to Achieve Sustainable and Real Economic Growth Through Integration and Sound Regulation,” Uduk noted that the event offers a forum for key stakeholders to discuss pertinent issues relating to infrastructure financing across the region.
The event is expected to feature experts, including 40 distinguished speakers and panelists from across Africa and beyond, including senior policymakers, business leaders, investors, thought leaders, and keynote speakers. These distinguished participants, including Dr. Jonathan Aremu, Consultant ECOWAS Common Investment Market; David Ashiagbor, Coordinator, Making Finance Work for Africa; and Chinua Azubuike, CEO, Infrastructure Credit Guarantee Limited, among others, are expected to proffer solutions and make recommendations necessary to help shape the development and integration of the region’s capital markets
While urging interested participants to register via the dedicated conference website, Uduk said “the conference is expected to feature sessions on financing infrastructure deficit in the region through the capital market, sustainable financing, Capital Market Integration and Fintech, Investor Protection in an Era of Integration and the Contribution of Investment Funds to Financing the Regions needs among others.
“Organisations interested in sponsoring the event can learn more on the conference website” she stated.
She expects also that challenges facing regulators and market operators in the area of cross-border activities and bodies, raising inter-regional funds and listings will be adequately addressed.
